Our test measures the concentrations of the proteins S100A8 and S100A9 from your tear sample. These proteins serve as biomarkers* that can indicate an inflammatory reaction associated with some tumors. Elevations of these proteins can indicate breast cancer, but they could also be due to a breast abnormality such as a benign mass, cyst, or calcifications.
*(Biomarkers are proteins or molecules found in blood, tissue, or other body fluids that are a sign of a normal or abnormal process and can be used to diagnose disease, infection, or a condition)
